My friend loves this show and we watched all of it as her turn of our small group of friends's Friday anime nights. I went into the show with rather low expectations and I got a little more than what I expected, but by the end my hopes were raised by the show that the final scenes were extremely unrewarding, confusing, and poorly written in my opinion.

I also agree that Gozen was killed off too early. I thought he was a very interesting character, but he dies only just after his motives are revealed. Also, the show leaves the question as to why Lady L wanted to awaken the Dragon Kings if she knew she couldn't control them to get her revenge. It also goes unexplained of the Four Sisters' true involvement, because it seems like it was their plan all along for the Ryudo brothers to be awakened and defeat the demon they defeat but it never goes into true detail as to what their true motives were.

I also liked Endless Eight. I think that it could've been made as a reaction to the fanbase itself; the Japanese fans were particularly nuts about the SOS Brigade.
Kyoto Animation are basically saying: "It's just a show, you idiots. Relax."

Ha ha, nice review. I got into Suzumiya Haruhi exactly because of the "fiasco" Endless Eight (seeing too many people rant about it), and thought it was really well done. Now that the movies based on the "missing arc" Disappearance that so many people expected for second season, the whole set-up becomes even better. The ranters seem to grudgingly forget the prank. Suzumiya Haruhi series is so interesting not only because of its content but also the crazy stuffs KyoAni pulls off. (The broadcast of the first season is somewhat of a prank too. Some people reeaally hate the shuffling. Too bad the American network did not have the guts to replicate it).

I just bought the first 2 omnibus volumes. I gotta say these are HUGE manga collections; you can easily get them for a steal.

I loved the Gunsmith Cats and Riding Bean anime OVAs, so this should be right up my alley. At first I was wonder why this series would need a full-blown 18+ warning on it, but after flipping through it it seems that there's certain amount of sexual content that didn't make it through to the animated versions (including full BJ and masturbation scenes).

Nothing springs to mind in Urusei Yatsura, possibly there's a minor character along those lines. The closest I can recall from the main characters is Asuka Mizunokoji, who ends up afraid of MEN after her first encounter with a man is Ataru Moroboshi.

Obviously Lum is trying to give Ataru an pavlovian girl allergy throughout the series, but his libido always wins out over electricity.

I'll probably check out the manga sometime if I can find it around in English, I would like to see some more. The sickle weasel arc was probably the weakest part of the show, I wanted them to elaborate more on Tora's past and his other name that was mentioned in the beach arc. I do like a good buddy story now and again so I'll definitely keep an eye out for it.

While I fell in love with Ushio and Tora through the same old VHS tape you probably saw way back when it and a cold of the Tenchi Muyo movie where the only thing on the anime store shelves, my true romance did not develop until I read the comics. The friendship that's hinted at in the anime is nothing compared to the work the writer puts into it on paper and it is indeed the best thing about the story, though not by far the only great thing.

After reading it, I can't go back to the anime, which is completely true to the comic but also sorely out of order (the water wheel incident comes much farther along in the story) and the last two episodes with the Kamaitachi (Sickle Weasels) begins the real story and introduces two great characters who would get a lot more time later on.

In short, they'll never finish the anime and that's sad. But we have the manga. You gotta read it.

Ushio and Tora, voted number 20 in the 50 greatest Manga of all time. Can't believe it was so low.
